Questions & Answears

WHO IS ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS?

You receive answers from one of our support volunteers who works at Make a Change. They have different backgrounds such as conversational coaches, therapists, lawyers, teachers, security officers etc. We are available to listen to you, and for us, nothing is too big, too small, too difficult or too hard.

WHAT CAN TALK WITH MAKE A CHANGE ABOUT?

Have you been bullied at school or online? In your sports club or at your workplace? It can be about yourself or someone you know. Though you and everyone else can talk to us is not the same as we can help out with everything. Sometimes it may be that someone else is better at just what you want help with. In that case, we will tell you and help you find the right solution for your problem. The only time we will end a call is if we find out that you are making a prank call. Then you are welcome to call, chat or email another day when there is something you really want help with.

HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE TO TALK TO MAKE A CHANGE?

Whatever your age, you are welcome to talk to us. Just keep in mind that if you are an adult (over 18 years old), you choose to chat or email with our adult support, and if you are a minor choose the chat or email support for children. This is because our volunteers have different backgrounds and knowledge that are better suited for each age range. All in order for us to help you in the best possible way.

AM I ANONYMOUS WHEN I TALK TO MAKE A CHANGE?

Yes, you are anonymous when you talk to us. That means the our support volunteers you talk to do not know who you are. We can not see who you are or what IP address your computer has. However, when you start a chat, you need to enter a “name” which may be anything. If you want to save the dialog you will have with our support volunteers, then after the chat is completed you can choose to email the conversation to yourself.

It’s not uncommon that people wanna talk to Make a Change multiple times. Then, Make a Change support volunteers can recognize the username you choose, the “email address” you entered, or simply recognize your story, but they still do not need to know who you are. It’s only if you choose to tell who you are who you are no longer anonymous. We consider that your anonymity is broken if you tell your first and last name or your social security number. This means, however, that it’s ok to say what your first name is without losing your anonymity.

WHEN I CONTACT MAKE A CHANGE WILL THERE BE ANY TRACES IN MY COMPUTER?

You need to clear your web history so nobody will see you have visited Make a Change website.

PROFESSIONAL SECRECY AND CONFIDENTIALITY

Yes, Make a Change work with professional secrecy and confidentiality, which means that we can not tell anyone else about what you tell us in a conversation, whether through chat or email. You can rest assured that what you tell us stays with us. There is only one exception to the obligation of confidentiality and it is if you have told who you are and also told us something that makes us very worried that you or someone else is in danger. Then we will contact the social services and tell them that we are worried. We do this for you to get the best help and protection possible. It’s only then if you chose to break your anonymity as we can do it and we never do it without telling you first.

DOES MAKES A CHANGE COLLECT INFORMATION ABOUT ME OR OTHER CHILDREN AND ADULTS?

Make a Change chats and emails provides important information about how children and adults have it and one of our missions is to spread it to others in order to raise awareness about the living and living conditions of children and adults to influence politicians and decision makers to live up to our legislation and human rights. Therefore, we document all our contacts by saving what the contact has been about. Your and others’ anonymity is always protected by Make a Change under GDPR (Data Protection Regulation) and the information is stored on a secure server within EES. Nothing what we collect can be connected to a specific person. Your anonymity is the most important thing for us.

CAN I HAVE CONTACT WITH THE SAME SUPPORT VOLUNTEER SEVERAL TIMES?

There are several support volunteers working on Make a Change and all respond threw chat and email. Unfortunately you can not choose who will answer in the chat or threw email when we hear from you. If you have contact with Make a Change several times, you may end up at with same support volunteer, sometimes not – but you should always be able to get good support.
