Outside the norm!
INFORMATION
“Outside the norm” is a lecture that tells how it is to grow up as an LGBTQ person in a small town characterized by macho culture. What is actually a norm, and how is it to step out of it? “It is not a person’s orientation or gender identity that creates mental illness and alienation. It is the ignorance and the norms we have created in our society. Surveys among young homo – and bisexuals shows that 68% of women and 45% of men have been treated in an offensive manner in the last three months. At the same time, every second transgender in Sweden has thought about ending their own life.
PURPOSE
During the lecture we go through key concepts within LGBTQ. Inspiring stories are interspersed with current research and we bind it together by discussions that arise during the course of the lecture. The listener is trained in an easy way in norm-critical thinking and gets several “food for thought” when we go through examples of norm criticism in practice. Whether the listener is young or old, from school or company, we promise that the lecture will contribute to increased knowledge in LGBTQ issues and gender equality work.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The lecture is for students and parents and can be adapted depending on grade.
